Introduction:

Bannerghatta National Park is a national park situated near Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The Park is spread over an area of 25,000 acre (22.27 km²) of land.  It is a popular tourist destination with a zoo, a pet corner, an animal rescue centre, a butterfly enclosure, an aquarium, a snake house and a safari park.

History:

Bannerghatta National Park was established in 1978. The biological park is a zoological reserve named for Y. M. L Sharma, a Conservator of Forest of Karnataka, who petitioned for the creation of the park. It shelters mammals such as Indian tigers (including white tigers) and lions.

Flora:

Bannerghatta National Park has a rich variety of plant species including Narcissus latifolia, Schleichera oleosa, Terminalai tomentosa, Sandalwood, Neem, T. arjuna, Grewia tilaefolia, Santalum album, Tamrind, Bamboo, Eucalyptus, Bauhinia purpurea, Samanea saman, peltphoram pterocarpum.

Fauna:

Bannerghatta has a rich wildlife. Various wildlife residing the park include Leopard, Lions, Tiger and Lion staring at each other in Bannerghatta National Park, Tiger, White Tiger, Tortoise, Zebra, elephants and gaur.

Activities:

Activities like trekking can be done here. Many options available such as the Zoo, Lion – tiger safari, Zoo – Grand safari and Zoo only.

Best time to visit:

Bannerghatta National Park is open throughout the year. Usually the temperature ranges between 20 degree C to 32 degree C. Best time to visit the park is during the months of September to January.

Timings:

Visitors are advised to get in touch with officials of the sanctuary for complete information entry timings and fee. Usually the Park remains open from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. Closed on Tuesdays.
