Dibru – Saikhowa National Park


Dibru – Saikhowa National Park is located in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district of Assam, India. The park spreads over an area of 350 square kilometers. It is the largest salix swamp forest in northeast India and is also a Biosphere. Dibru Saikhowa National Park is spotted as one of the best Biodiversity hotspots in the world. It is a definite tourist spot to visit once in a lifetime.


Initially a part of the forest was declared as a reserve forest 1890. Later, in 1928, rest of the forest was declared as Saikhowa Reserve Forest.


The park is characterized by semi-evergreen forests, deciduous, littoral and swamp forests and patches of wet evergreen forests. The National Park is having about 35.84% moist mixed forests, 9.50% degraded forest and 21.25% grassland.


Dibru-Saikhowa is a safe haven for many extremely rare and endangered species of wildlife, including over 300 species of avifauna both endangered and migratory The White-winged Wood Duck is the flagship wildlife that Dibru-Saikhowa National Park protects other than 36 species including Wild Horses, One-horned Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephant, Asiatic Water Buffalo, Clouded Leopard etc.


Some of the most popular activities in the park include trekking and walking.

Best time to visit:

Dibru – Saikhowa National Park is open throughout the year. Best time to visit the park is during the months of November to April.


Visitors are advised to get in touch with officials of the sanctuary for complete information entry timings and fee.

Getting There:

By Air: Mohanbari (Dibrugarh) is the nearest Airport, which is about 40 kms. away from Tinsukia town.

By Rail: One of the easiest ways to reach Tinsukia town is travelling by trains. You can opt for Rajdhani trains from Delhi city which pass through the route to Dibrugarh.

By Road: Buses can be taken to the town of Tinsukia which is well connected with Dibrugarh town by NH. 37 and the distance is 55 kms. The distance between the city of Guwahati and Dibru Saikhova National Park will be around 500 kilometers approximately.
