Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary


Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Rajsamand district of the state of Rajasthan. Kumbhalgarh Wildlife sanctuary is a perfect place for wildlife lovers. The Sanctuary is spread over an area of 578 square kilometers. Kumbhalgarh natural beauty attracts many tourists and especially for its accessibility from Udaipur, which is 100 Kms from here.


Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary was declared in 1971 and got its name from the fort of Kumbhalgarh which occupies parts of Udaipur, Pali and Rajsamand district.


The sanctuary consists of a rich variety of flora and is surrounded wolf, leopards, sloth bear, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, ‘smabhar’, ‘nilgai’, ‘chaisingh’ (the four horned antelope), ‘chinkara’ and hare.


This sanctuary inhabits more than forty wolves in number. This park consists of a large variety of Birds including Grey Jungle Fowl, which is usually inhibited. Peacocks and Doves also gain attention by their own charm. Apart from this, birds like Red Spur Owls, Parakeets, Golden Oriole, Bulbul, Dove, Grey Pigeons and White Breasted Kingfisher are traceable near the water holes.


Kumbhalgarh has many options for tourists – apart from jeep safaris; you can also go trekking here. There are points of historic interests in the sanctuary too.

Best time to visit:

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is open throughout the year. Best time to visit the park is during the months of December to March.

Getting There:

By Air: Maharana Pratap Airport is the nearest airport is placed in Udaipur at a distance of 100 kilometers.

By Rail: Falna, Udaipur has the nearest railway station.

By Road: Has good networks of roadways connected via Udaipur to all the cities of India. It is connected to national highway 76 where buses run frequently from Chetak Bus Stand.
