Ranthambore National Park is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of Southeastern Rajasthan. This park is known for its healthy Tiger population. Ranthambore National Park attracts large number of travelers to witness the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. The Park is spread over an area of 392 square kilometers of land.


Ranthambore was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the Government of India and was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973. Ranthambore became a national park in 1980 and was named after the historic Ranthambhore fortress, which lies inside the park.


Ranthambore National Park is covered with dry deciduous forests. It is home for different species of birds, Wild animals, plants and trees. The rugged park terrain alternates between dry deciduous forests, open grassy meadow. The trees and plants spread in the include Aam (Magnifera Indica), Imli (Tamarindicus indica), Babul (Accasia nilotica), Banyan etc.


Ranthambore National Park is best known for its large population of Tigers and it is a natural habitat for a huge variety of wild animals, birds and reptiles. Faunal group found in the Park include Tigers, Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Sambar deer, Chital, Nilgai, Common or Hanuman langurs, Macaques, Jackals, Jungle cats, Caracals etc.

Best time to visit:

Ranthambore National Park is open throughout the year. Best time to visit the park is during the months of October to June. Wild life Safaris and Jeep Safaris are also being provided by the forest department to explore the Park.


Visitors are advised to get in touch with officials of the sanctuary for complete information entry timings and fee.

By Air: Jaipur is the nearest airport for Ranthambore National Park. The Park is located just 180 km away from Jaipur city.

By Road: Ranthambore National Park is located just 11 km away from Sawai Madhopur and plenty of buses ply between Sawai Madhopur and the park.
